Air pollution is caused from Ships Exhaust which emits Sulphur oxide and Nitrogen oxide.
It sets limits on sulphur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions from ship exhaust and prohibits deliberate emissions of ozone depleting substances.
Applies to all ships of 400 GRT & More which have to carry International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate for ship constructed after 2005.

SOx Emission Control Area
SECA control area means an Area where adoption of special mandatory measures for SOx emission from ships. In SECA it is required to prevent, reduce and control air pollution from SOx & it's adverse impact on land and sea areas.
The Baltic Sea and North Sea are designated as SECAs.
