Chapters of SOLAS
The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974 includes articale setting out general obligations, amendment procedure and so on, followed by annex divided in to 14 Chapters.
Chapter I - General Provision : Includes the survey of the ships amd issuing of documents. The chapter also includes provision for the ships in ports of other Contracting Government.
Chapter II - 1 - Construction - Subdivision and stability, machinery and electric installations : The chapter deals with watertight integrity of the Passenger ships.
Chapter II - 2 - Fire Protection, Fire detection and fire extinction : Includes detailed fire safety provisions for all ships and specific measures for passanger ships, cargo ships and tankers.
Chapter III - Life Saving Appliances and Arrangements : Includes requirements for life-saving appliances and arrangements according to the type of the ships.
Chapter IV - Radio Communications : The chapter include the Global maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) for all passenger ships and all cargo ships of 300 grt and above on International Voyage.
Chapter V - Safety of Navigation : This chapter deals with navigation safety services and includes the maintenance of metrological services for ships.
Chapter VI - Carriage of Cargoes : This chapter includes requirements for stowage and securing of cargo units except gases and liquids.
Chapter VII - Carriage of Dangerous Goods : Provides the information regarding storage and transportation of dangerous goods. & Contains provisions for the Classification, Packing, Marking, Labelling and Placarding, Documentation.
Chapter VIII - Nuclear Ships : This chapter contains basic requirements concerning safety, suitability, operation, surveys, control and radiation safety of the nuclear power plant in merchant ships.
Chapter IX - Management of the safe Operation of ships : The International Safety Management Code (ISM) for ship owner and operator described clearly.
Chapter X - Safety Measures for High Speed Craft : A high speed craft is one of which is capable of a maximum speed in m/s equal to or exceeding

Chapter XI-1 - Special Measure to Enhance Maritime Safety : This Chapter deals

Chapter XI -2 - Special Measures to Enhance Maritime Security : The chapter deals with ship and port security.
Chapter XII - Additional Special Measures for Bulk Carrier Safety : The chapter includes structural requirements for bulk carriers of 150 metres or more in length carrying cargoes with density of 1000 kg/m3 and above.
Chapter XIII - Verification of Compliance : mandatory from 1 January 2016 the IMO member States audit scheme.
Chapter XIV - Safety Measures for ships operating in Polar Water : Mandatory from 1 January 2017 , the introduction and Part I - A of the International Code for ships operating in Polar Water (Polar Code).
